Tale of Two Halves, Mocs Fall to Lynn

Box Score

BOCA RATON – Two goals early in the second half by Lynn negated the first-half dominance of Florida Southern as the Fighting Knights defeat the Moccasins 3-1 on Saturday.

Florida Southern (4-4-3, 0-4 Sunshine State Conference) came out looking to change its fortunes in conference play with a quickened pace to start the game. Senior Kirra Rainbow(Melbourne Beach, Fla.) generated two of those early chances in the 9th minute with a shot from the right that just missed wide, and a shot in the 11th minute that was blocked leading to a shot from sophomore Sheila Ramos (Tampa, Fla.) that challenged the Lynn goalie. Senior Taylor Cox (Palm City, Fla.) had the other chance in that time from the top of the box that was wide of the frame. FSC outshot Lynn 11-6 in the first half.

Senior goalkeeper Erin Moseley (Jacksonville, Fla.) would be needed to keep the game scoreless in the 19th minute when she came out and got enough of a close-range shot from Lynn (4-7, 1-4 Sunshine State Conference) to send it wide of the goal. Moseley would come up with another big save in the 35th minute to keep the Fighting Knights off the board when she tipped a chip shot from the top of the box off the crossbar before corralling it and ending the threat. She would make six saves on the night.

The Mocs would strike first in their first game at Bobby Campbell Stadium after Rainbow went in on a breakaway down the right side of the box for her fifth goal of the season in the 22nd minute. FSC would keep up the pressure as they challenged Lynn's Caitlin Shaver less than a minute later when Izzy Loyd (Melbourne, Fla.) ripped a shot from the top of the box. Abby Bravo (Clearwater, Fla.) would keep up the pressure going one-on-one with Shaver in the 31st minute, and nearly scored pushing the ball just to the right of the post.

Lynn would tie the game in the 37th minute when a long-ranged shot from about 40-yards by Lina Forsman found its way under the crossbar. Two goals in two minutes early in the second half by Jordyn Taylor and Lauren Handley would be all the insurance the Fighting Knights would need to earn their first conference win of the season.

Florida Southern returns to action on Tuesday when they welcome the Tampa Spartans to Barnett Field for a rematch from September 24th in Tampa which ended in a 0-0 draw. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
