Mocs Stand Seventh After Two Rounds of SSC Championships, Convery Tied for 14th Overall

DADE CITY - After two rounds of the 2014 Sunshine State Conference Championships, Florida Southern remains in seventh after firing a 298 here in Monday's second round of action at the Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club. It was the second round that the 19th-ranked Moccasins shot a 298 as they are fired a 298 in Sunday's opening round.

After 36 holes of golf, the Mocs have recorded a team score of 596 as they stand six shots behind sixth-place Florida Tech (590) and nine shots in front of eighth-place Eckerd (605). Other teams just in front of the Mocs are Rollins, who shot a 286 in the second round to push its 36 hole total to 583 and Nova Southeastern remained fourth after shooting a second round 287 to push its 36 hole total to 580.

The Mocs opened the day by having its four counters shoot a one-under par on the back nine (holes 10-18) on the South course at Lake Jovita, before having its four counters combine to shoot an 11-over on the front nine (holes 1-9). After completing the first nine holes on Monday, the Mocs were sitting in a tie for fifth place with Rollins and Florida Tech.

FSC's second round play was highlighted by senior All-American Tim Crouch (Mt. Vernon, Ohio), who shot a one-under par 71 to push his 36 hole total to 146 to move into a tie for 19th place. Crouch's 71 featured five birdies, including four birdies on the opening nine holes and four bogeys. Crouch shot a four-under par 32 on the back nine (10-18), before firing a three-over 39 on the front nine (1-9).

Leading the way for the Mocs after two rounds is senior Shane Convery (Ponte Vedra, Fla.). Convery followed up his one-under par 71 in Sunday's first rounds with a two-over par 74 in the second round to push his 36 hole total to a one-over par 145 as he is tied for 14th with five other golfers.

Barry's Adam Svensson shot a two-under 70 in the second round to took over the top spot on the leaderboard as he has now shot a four-under par 140 for 36 holes. He holds a one stroke lead over two of his Buccaneer teammates, Mario Beltran and Berry Jole and Saint Leo's Joey Savoie. Beltran, Jole and Savoie have each shot three-under par 141's for 36 holes. Beltran followed up his 73 in the opening round with a 68 on Monday, while Jole, who was tied for first round lead after firing a 68, shot a 73 on Monday and Savoie followed up his 72 on Sunday with a 69 in the second round on Monday. 

In addition to Crouch's 71 and Convery's 74 on Monday, sophomore Austin Schultz (Lakeland, Fla.) shot a two-over 74 to push his 36 hole total to 146 as he stands tied with Crouch for 19th place. On the day, Schultz had three birdies and five bogeys and shot a one-under 35 on the opening nine holes (10-18), before firing a three-over 39 on the front nine (1-9). Schultz shot an even-par 72 in Sunday's opening round. 

The fourth score to count for the Mocs on Monday was a 79 from freshman Levin Hoffman (Sarstedt, Germany). The 79 pushed Hoffman's two-day, 36-hole total score to 161 as he is 43rd place overall in his first collegiate tournament. Hoffman fired an 82 in Sunday's opening round, that included an eagle on the par-5, No. 9 hole.

FSC's final golfer was freshman Jason Huntington (Lakeland, Fla.) as he shot an 87 in the second round to push his 36 hole total to 167, which places him in 45th place overall. Huntington, who shot an 80 in Sunday's first round, struggled on the front nine (1-9) on Monday as he shot a 46 after firing a 41 on the back nine to open the day.

The final round of the three-day event gets underway Tuesday morning with a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m. FSC's five golfers will tee off from holes No. 6B through No. 9B on the South course and will play in threesomes against with Eckerd and Tampa, the same two teams they were paired with on Monday.
