MACON, GA – Lorenda Rionda won both of her matches on day one of the 2nd Annual Mercer Bear Gridiron Classic played here Friday at Mercer University.

In Flight A, Linnea Skymberg got a first round bye, but fell, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 to Xandra Fougner of Mercer in the second round. Also in Flight B, Selin Devrimici lost to Julia Albuquerque of Savannah College of Art & Design.

In Flight B of the Singles competition, Rionda beat NSU's Liza Gordeeva, 6-4, 6-0, and advanced to Saturday's winner bracket action with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Belmont's Suzna Stapler. Also in Flight A, Nina Vucevic withdrew from her match with Berry's Lauren Byrket due to injury.

In Flight C, Katie Stanford fell, 7-5, 6-4, to Maddie Gilley of Belmont.

In Flight D, Shannon Griffrin lost, 6-2, 6-0, to Liza Klyachkin of Mercer.

In Flight A of the Doubles matches, Devrimici and Rionda got a first round bye while in Flight B, Griffin and Stanford were defeated 6,1 by Srodowski and Wagner of Charleston Southern.

The tournament continues through Sunday.
