MOCS LOOK DETHRONE KNIGHTS, SNAP TWO-GAME SKID
Florida Southern (11-12 overall, 5-8 SSC) hosts Lynn (7-15, 1-12 SSC) at Jenkins Field House (1,800) on Saturday, Feb. 21 as they look to rebound from consecutive road losses at No. 21 Florida Tech and Eckerd. The game will mark the 14th of 16 SSC games this season for the Mocs and its their 12th home game. A win on Saturday would extend FSC's home win streak to three games. The Mocs won back-to-back games at Jenkins Field House on Feb. 7 in an upset over No. 24 Nova Southeastern and on Feb. 11 over Saint Leo.
The Mocs had opportunities to win both of their recent losses. On Wednesday, they held a one-point halftime lead, and after an Ali Sanders 3-pointer in the first 30 seconds of the second half, led 29-27. However, over the next 12 minutes, the Tritons doubled the Mocs with a 34-17 run to take a 61-46 lead with 7:35 to go. FSC whittled the deficit to as little as four points, but it proved to be too much to overcome.
Against then-21st ranked Florida Tec on Feb. 14, the Mocs were looking for their second upset of a ranked opponent in three games, and held a six-point lead over the Panthers midway through the second half. FSC clung to a 59-58 lead with 6:24 to go, but Florida Tech went on a 19-5 run to finish the game.
Last time out against the Fighting Knights, the Moccasin offense exploded for a season-high 90 points in a 90-85 win in Boca Raton. Five Mocs scored in double figures, led by 16-point performances from Ali Sanders, Cashala Thompson and Syerra Davis. Davis paced the Mocs from the foul line, going 10-for-12 as they attempted a season-high 45 free throws. FSC's 38 made foul shots were three shy of the program's single-game record.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. LYNN
The Mocs lead the all-time series vs. Lynn, 24-14. They have won two straight over the Fighting Knights and seven of their last 10. Florida Southern lost the first-ever contest against Lynn, a 79-67 loss in Boca Raton on Nov. 21, 1994. From there, the Mocs went on a series-long nine-game win streak from Dec. 13, 1996 to Feb. 14, 2001.
The win over Lynn earlier this season marked the fourth time in the 38-game series the Mocs have reached the 90-point plateau. FSC is 3-1 when scoring 90-plus against the Fighting Knights, with the only loss coming in triple-overtime, 97-96, on Feb. 13, 2009.
