Women's Tennis Completes Split Doubleheader Sweep with 5-2 Win Over Christian Brothers

PENSACOLA - Florida Southern clipped Christian Brothers 5-2 Friday evening to complete a day-night doubleheader sweep at the University of West Florida. Earlier on Friday, the Mocs beat Alabama-Huntsville by a 5-1 score.

The Mocs swept the doubles competition, led by the number one team of Magda Riutort and Olivia Spagnuolo which downed Lauren Woog and Meg Mattis 8-2. The number two pairing of Miroslava Mensikova and Katie Taylor-Doran breezed to an 8-1 win over Carley Lane and Tyler Napier with Cassie Eldredge and Katie Stanford, playing at number three, completed the trifecta with an 8-4 victory over Rebecca Johnston and Melanie Mays.

The singles competition was made interesting as the Mocs' #2 and #3 players, Spagnuolo and Mensikova, respectively, did not participate, moving the remaining players up two spots.

Riutort dispatched Lane 6-2, 6-1, at number one singles, while Griffin clinched the Mocs' win with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Napier in the number five slot.

The Mocs, now 4-10 and on a two-game win streak, will face 8th-ranked West Florida Saturday at 10 am on the Argonauts home courts.
