LAKELAND - Florida Southern opened up an eight-match homestand here Monday afternoon by posting a 9-0 shutout victory over Seton Hill (Pa.) at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
The 45th-ranked Moccasin improved to 2-3 overall on the season, while Seton Hill fell to 3-3 on the year.
Monday's match began with the Mocs dropped just eight games en route to sweeping all three doubles matches, including its No. 1 team of seniors Magda Riutort (Petra, Spain) and Olivia Spagnuolo (Andover, Mass.) collecting an 8-2 win over Isidora Knezevic and Sara Ruiz.
At the No. 2 doubles spot, freshman Nina Vucevic (Beausoleil, France) and junior Miroslava Mensikova (Hranice, Czech Republic) posted an 8-2 win over Megan Hudal and Paula Carvajalino. Mensikova was playing her first match of the spring season on Monday.
The closest match in doubles came at the No. 3 as freshmen Kate Taylor-Doran (Brisbane, Australia) and Katie Stanford (Lake Worth, Fla.) earning an 8-4 victory over Chelsea Pence and Alisha Torretti.
Meanwhile, in singles action, the Mocs dropped a total of nine games in four of its six matches, including Taylor-Doran and freshman Cassie Eldredge (Peachtree City, Ga.) each picking up identical 6-0, 6-1 wins at the No. 5 and 6 spots respectively.
Additionally, Riutort improved to 4-2 on the season with her 6-3, 6-0 win at the No. 1 spot over Knezevic, while Spagnuolo moved her record to 5-2 on the season following her 6-3, 6-1 win at the No. 2 spot over Ruiz.
FSC will continue its eight-game homestand on Wednesday, March 11 as they host Young Harris in a 3 p.m. game at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
