Goedde's Goal Ties Game, Koetter Keeps it That Way in 1-1 Tie With Embry-Riddle

Box Score

LAKELAND – Jess Goedde scored the game-tying goal early in the second half and six saves by backup goalkeeper Paige Koetter kept it that way as Florida Southern and Embry-Riddle played to a 1-1 draw at Barnett Field on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Embry-Riddle (8-3-2), which came into the game ranked #5 in the South Region, scored its goal with exactly 19 minutes to play in the first half when Elvira Allen buried a shot from 25 yards out, sending the ball from the right side of the field into the far upper corner of the net.
  • Florida Southern (1-8-2) answered with 32:30 remaining in the game as Goedde had time to set up a shot from 20 yards out and loft it over goalkeeper Fanny Kristiansson into the upper reaches of the net for her first goal of the season. It was also the first career goal for the junior defender.
  • Koetter, who played the entire second half and overtime in a pre-determined move by head coach Siggi Nagele, made five of her career-high six saves after Goedde's game-tying goal. The sophomore goalkeeper was seeing the most extensive playing time of her career and faced a total of 12 shots in 65 minutes.
  • Koetter had to make one save in each overtime period, stopping Gudrun Johnson with less than a minute to play in the first overtime, and Elizabeth Allen in the final minute of the second overtime.
  • Starting goalkeeper Helena Norrstrom had four saves in the first half, including one against Hanna Rolfsen 2½ minutes into the game that deflected off the crossbar. Anna Griessler was in position, however, to head the loose ball out of danger.
  • Embry-Riddle had the final scoring chance of regulation in the final 15 seconds but freshman midfielder Kaitlyn Svopa came up with a defensive stop to end the threat.
  • The Eagles out-shot the Moccasins by the count of 9-3 in the first half, but the Moccasins turned it around in the second half by out-shooting the Eagles 10-8. Embry-Riddle finished with 21 shots overall and Florida Southern took 14.
  • Griessler had five shots for the Moccasins and Sheila Ramos had three.
  • Embry-Riddle had seven corner kicks to Florida Southern's six.
  • Kristiansson had six saves for the Eagles, and Koetter and Norrstrom combined for 10 for the Moccasins
