Box Score LAKELAND, FL - Florida Southern College women's basketball overcame an early deficit to pick up a 61-45 win over Lee on the second day of the SSC/GSC Challenge on Saturday at Jenkins Field House. The Moccasins (2-0) did not lead until the closing seconds of the first half, but were able to pull away in the third quarter against the Flames (1-1).
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Florida Southern fell behind Lee early, as the Flames raced out to 22-14 lead after the first quarter. The Flames held the Mocs to just 37.5 percent (6-of-16) from the floor in the opening period.
• The Moccasins began to heat up in the second quarter, connecting on 54.5 percent (6-of-11) from the floor. The offensive surged helped FSC chip away at Lee's lead until Jensen Blassage gave the Mocs the lead with a pair of free-throws and the end of the half to give Florida Southern a 30-29 edge at the midway point.
• The Flames would go back on top with the first bucket of the second half, but it was the last time Florida Southern would trail as the Moccasins outscored Lee 19-6 over the remainder of the third quarter to grab a 49-37 advantage.
• The Mocs kept the pressure on in the fourth quarter, holding the Flames to just eight points as they cruised to a 61-45 win and picked up their 13th-straight home win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• Florida Southern improved to 4-1 all-time against Lee and 27-30 all-time against teams from the Gulf South Conference. The Mocs won their 13th-straight home game, improved to 405-146 all-time at Jenkins Field House, and moved to 26-5 in home games under head coach Betsy Harris.
• Jensen Blassage led all players with 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting. She also grabbed six rebounds and added a steal to the stat sheet.
• Anya Fuchs-Robetin fell just shy of a double-double with 14 points and eight rebounds while dishing out a team-best four assists. Gianna Vastola added 11 points and nine rebounds, while Giulia Simioni scored 11 points off the bench.
• The Mocs held Lee to just 6-of-23 shooting and 16 points in the second half, and outscored the Flames by a 31-16 tally over the final 20 minutes of play.
• Florida Southern finished with a 34-14 edge in the paint and a 17-13 advantage in points off turnovers. The Flames held the edge in second-chance points (12-10) and bench points (17-15).
