Box Score GOLDEN, CO - A cold-shooting first quarter put Florida Southern College women's basketball in an early hole, and the No. 4 Moccasins (4-1) were unable to dig their way out in an 81-66 loss at Colorado School of Mines on Friday. The Orediggers (3-5) held Florida Southern to just nine points of 3-of-13 shooting in the opening 10 minutes to snap a two-game losing streak.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Florida Southern was held scoreless for nearly four minutes to start the game, but was able to battle back and take a 7-6 lead on Giulia Simioni's three with 4:26 on the clock. However, the Orediggers would finish the quarter on a 16-2 run to take a double-digit lead (22-9) into the second quarter.
• The Mocs were able to trim the deficit to just seven points (34-27) with a 13-6 run in the second quarter. The run was field by Camille Giardina, who scored nine of her game-high 24 points during the stretch, which took place over a four-minute span (7:46-3:38). Giardina hit a trio of three-pointers during the run, and went 6-of-10 from beyond the arc in the contest.
• Colorado Mines responded by closing out the half on an 11-4 run to head into the locker room with a 45-31 lead. The Mocs went 7-of-13 from the floor in the second quarter, including an incredible 5-of-6 from long range.
• FSC was able to trim the deficit to single digits twice in the third quarter, but the Orediggers never relinquished the lead and found themselves up 66-54 after three quarters.
• Colorado Mines extended its lead to as many as 16 points (76-60) in the fourth quarter, and held the Mocs to just 5-of-15 from the floor over the final 10 minutes. Giardina was able to bring the Moccasins with 10 (76-66) on a three-pointer with 2:43 to go, but the Orediggers would hold Florida Southern scoreless the rest of the way.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• The Moccasins fell to 0-1 all-time against Colorado School of Mines in the first-ever meeting between the two teams. Florida Southern also saw its nine-game regular-season winning streak come to an end. The loss is FSC's first regular-season defeat since a 58-53 overtime setback at Florida Tech on Feb. 6, 2016.
• Giardina's 24 points were a new career-high, breaking her previous best of 22, which she scored against Saint Leo on Dec. 2, 2015. She finished 7-of-14 from the floor, and her six three-pointers were also a new career high. She added two assists and two rebounds on the night.
• Anja Fuchs-Robetin scored 14 points and grabbed a team-best six rebounds. She went 5-of-10 from the floor, 1-of-2 from beyond the arc, and 3-of-6 from the free-throw line.
• The Mocs shot just 38.9 percent (21-of-54) from the floor, but connected on 8-of-17 from long range and shot 16-of-22 from the charity stripe. The Orediggers shot 46.4 percent (26-of-56) in the contest, and went 22-of-29 from the free-throw line. Colorado Mines won the rebounding battle by a 45-23 margin, and outscored the Moccasins 26-16 in the paint.

• Florida Southern will face Regis in Denver at 5 p.m. (ET) on Saturday. The Mocs then travel to Palm Beach Atlantic on Dec. 3, before returning home against Barry on Dec. 10 to start a five-game homestand.
