Moccasins Win Big on Monday

LAKELAND, FL – Anja Fuchs-Robetin turned in one of her best performances of the season, and Florida Southern College women's basketball picked up an easy 76-54 win over Claflin on Monday at Jenkins Field House.

The No. 16 Moccasins (8-3) shot 56.9 percent (29-of-51) and never trailed as they topped the Panthers (8-5) for the second-straight season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Florida Southern scored the first points of the game on Fuchs-Robetin's jumper off the opening tip and nevers surrendered the lead. Claflin was able to tie the game on its first possession, but the Moccasins took the lead for good when Fuchs-Robetin connected from long range with 9:11 in the opening quarter to make it 5-2.
• The Panthers were able to get within one point midway through the opening period, but the Mocs were able to stretch their lead to as many as eight points, and found themselves up 16-12 after one quarter of play.
• The second quarter was when Florida Southern would finally get some more breathing room against Claflin. After the Panthers kept it close in the early stages, the Mocs were able to pull away near the end of the period and took a 33-25 lead into the locker room.
• In the third quarter, the Moccasins would seize momentum for good thanks to a red-hot offense and stingy defense. Florida Southern outscored Claflin 27-12 in the third quarter, made 71.4 percent of its shots (10-of-14) and held the Panthers to just 25.0 percent (3-of-12) from the floor as they ended the third with a 60-37 lead.
• Florida Southern never led by less than 20 points the rest of the way as it picked up its sixth home win of the season. The Moccasins outscored the Panthers 22-12 in points off turnovers as Florida Southern's defense forced 20 Claflin turnovers.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• Florida Southern improved to 2-1 all-time against Claflin. The Mocs also moved to 409-147 all-time at Jenkins Field House, and are 30-6 in home games under head coach Betsy Harris.
• Fuchs-Robetin led all players in scoring with 18 points. She was 7-of-11 from the floor, and went a perfect 2-of-2 from both the free-throw line and three-point range. Fuchs-Robetin also added six rebounds and six assists.
• Camille Giardina (15), Giulia Simioni (10) and Gianna Vastola (10) also scored in double figures. Simioni dished out six assists, while Elsa Landberg had a game-high nine. Theresa Mac-Dangosu scored nine points off the bench.
• The Moccasins held Claflin without a points for the final 48 seconds of the first half and the first 4:45 of the second half.

• Florida Southern returns to Sunshine State Conference play against Tampa at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 30 before heading to Lynn on Jan. 4.
