DAYTONA BEACH - The Moccasin women's tennis team wrapped up the final day action in the Embry-Riddle Open here Sunday.
In doubles, Florida Southern's duo of Sasha Nionova and Lorena Rionda was the lone Moccasin doubles team to finish with a win, downing Embry-Riddle's Maria Turrillo and Georgina Wood by an 8-2 score to finish 2-1 in the tournament. Linnea Skymberg and Selin Devrimci, after winning their first two matches, fell, 8-6, to ERAU's Maud Mrad and Alexis Marshall, to also finish 2-1. Magda Stepnik and Katie Stanford lost, 8-0, to Flagler's Lizanne Jinkertz and Mary Nanti and finished with a 1-2 mark over the three days of doubles.
In singles competition, Skymberg battled back from a first set defeat to post a 3-6, 6-4, 11-9 win over Flagler's Laura Kelly and finish with a 1-2 record. Avery Hunter posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory against ERAU's Jessica Lown to win her second straight match after falling in the opening round.
Also, in singles, Devrimci ended on a high note, beating ERAU's Marshall 6-1, 6-4 for a 2-1 record. Stepnik dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision to Flagler's Nanti for a 1-2 tournament record while Stanford also dropped her tournament finale by a 6-1, 6-1 score to ERAU's Wood for a 2-2 overall mark.
The Moccasins will next host the ITA South Regional Championships on Sept. 23-26 in Lakeland.
