LAKELAND, Fla. — In a conference matchup, No. 8 Florida Southern College (15-3, 5-2 SSC) honored its seniors, Kennedi Brown, Annika Berrendorf, and Jolie Miller prior to first serve before going on to defeat No. 30 Eckerd (12-7, 2-7) with a decisive 7-0 victory on Monday at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center. The Moccasins swept all three doubles matches and won all six singles matches in straight sets.
Florida Southern secured the doubles point decisively with victories on all courts. At No. 2 doubles, Emily Jennewein and Ronja Scheuermann, ranked No. 48, quickly defeated Fiona Orza and Laura Ullrich of theTritons, 6-0. The momentum continued at No. 3 doubles, where seniors Berrendorf and JMiller achieved a 6-1 win over Maialen Idiakez and V Sanchez Bronzetti. The No. 1 doubles match completed the sweep, as the No. 28 pair of Brown and Josie Holderbach triumphed 6-3 against Catherine Cole and Olivia Lindestaf.
In singles play, Florida Southern extended its lead with Jennewein's decisive 6-1, 6-2 win over Fiona Orza at No. 3 singles. Miller followed at No. 5 singles with a 6-1, 6-4 victory against Catherine Cole, bringing the dual score to 3-0. Scheuermann clinched the match for the Mocs at No. 2 singles, defeating V Sanchez Bronzetti 6-3, 6-3, making the score 4-0.
Berrendorf added another point, taking a tight 6-4, 7-6(5) win over Maialen Idiakez at No. 4 singles. Holderbach, ranked No. 18, secured a three-set win against 20th ranked Olivia Lindestaf at No. 1 singles, 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-4). Diana Volkov closed out the day with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Laura Ullrich at No. 6 singles, finalizing the 7-0 sweep.
The next challenge for the Moccasins is a matchup against Saint Leo University on Thursday, April 16 at 6 p.m. at the Saint Leo Tennis Center in Saint Leo, Florida.
