Box Score

LAKELAND, FL - Gianna Vastola posted her first double-double of the season, and Florida Southern College women's basketball used an explosive second quarter to power past visiting Florida Tech, 87-73, on Wednesday at Jenkins Field House.

The Moccasins (11-4, 7-1 SSC) picked up their third-straight Sunshine State Conference victory and snapped a seven-game losing streak against the Panthers (7-7, 2-5).

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The tide would turn late in the opening period, when back-to-back buckets by Vastola and Theresa Mac-Dangosu gave Florida Southern a 17-14 lead at the end of the first quarter.
• The momentum would carry over into the second quarter, when Florida Southern scored 29 points and shot 62.5 percent (10-of-16) from the floor. Leading 21-18 with seven minutes to play in the half, Camille Giardina hit a three-pointer to jumpstart a 10-3 run that gave FSC its first double-digit lead of the day (31-21).
• Florida Southern would eventually extend the lead to as many as 14 points on two occasions in the final two minutes of the half, and took a 46-32 lead into halftime.
• FSC's lead would balloon to as many as 24 points (62-38) midway through the third quarter, and Florida Tech would get no closer than 13 points the rest of the way as the Moccasins picked up their third-straight win.
• The Mocs shot 49.2 percent (31-of-63) from the floor, including 5-of-11 from beyond the arc. Florida Southern made 20-of-22 free-throw attempts, including all 10 in the second half.
• Florida Tech shot 46.4 percent (26-of-56), but was just 3-of-12 from long range. The Panthers made 18-of-25 free throws. Florida Southern finished with a 42-25 edge on rebounds.
