Box Score DAYTONA BEACH, FL - Florida Southern College women's basketball got off to a slow start, and was never able to recover in a 65-54 loss at Embry-Riddle on Wednesday at the ICI Center.
The Moccasins (12-5) shot just 34.0 percent (18-of-53) and scored just six first-quarter points as the Eagles (12-4) picked up their first-ever win over Florida Southern.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Florida Southern struggled to score over the game's first 10 minutes. The Moccasins made just two shots from the floor in the first quarter, and were held scoreless for the final six minutes of the opening period as Embry-Riddle built a 17-6 lead.
• The Moccasins were able to bounce back in the second quarter, holding the Eagles scoreless for almost seven minutes at the onset to cut the deficit to just two points (17-15) with 4:05 to play in the second quarter.
• ERAU was able to hold off FSC and maintain the lead, taking a 27-23 advantage into the locker room at the half.
• The Mocs would retake the lead for a brief moment when Gianna Vastola hit a jumper to make it 28-27, but Embry-Riddle would hit a three on its next possession to jump back on top, and would never trail again.
• Florida Southern would trail just 48-45 in the opening minute of the fourth quarter, but a 7-0 run by the Eagles would give ERAU a 10-point lead (55-45), and the Moccasins would get no closer than seven points the rest of the way.
• The Moccasins shot just 29.2 percent (7-of-24) in the first half, and went 0-of-6 from beyond the arc through the first 20 minutes of play.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• Florida Southern fell to 3-1 all-time against Embry-Riddle, and dropped to 4-3 on the road this season.
• The Moccasins were outscored by 21 points (24-3) at the three-point line as ERAU hit 52.9 percent (9-of-17) of its shots from beyond the arc. Four different FSC players scored in double figures, led by Jensen Blassage and Anja Fuchs-Robetin, who each scored 11. Camille Giardina and Theresa Mac-Dangosu each had 10.
• Mac-Dangosu also added seven rebounds and three steals in just 19 minutes off the bench. She also tallied her second block of the season.
• The Mocs shot 77.3 percent (17-of-22) at the free-throw line, and have shot better than 75.0 percent from the line in five-straight and six of their last seven games.
