Box Score BOCA RATON, FL - Camille Giardina scored a career-high 28 points and Florida Southern College women's basketball held on for a 73-68 win at Sunshine State Conference rival Lynn on Wednesday night.
The Moccasins (9-4, 5-1 SSC) pushed their winning streak over the Fighting Knights (7-5, 2-4) to six games, and stayed in a second-place tie with Nova Southeastern in the conference standings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Florida Southern fell behind by three (5-2) in the opening minutes of the game, but rallied with five-straight points to take a 7-5 lead on Gianna Vastola's layup with 7:26 to go.
• Both teams traded jabs throughout the first quarter as the Moccasins never led by more than three points, but Florida Southern scored the first seven points of the second quarter to take a 28-18 advantage.
• Lynn would battle back by using a 14-5 run in the closing stages of the first half to trim the deficit down to just one point (37-36), but the Mocs scored the final four points of the half to take a 41-36 lead into the locker room.
• While Florida Southern never surrendered the lead and led by as many as eight points on several occasions in the second half, the Knights were able to pull within one (69-68) in the final two minutes, but the Mocs converted all four free-throw attempts in the final 10 seconds to preserve the victory.
• Florida Southern (44.8 percent) and Lynn (46.8) both shot well from the floor but the separation came at the free-throw line, where the Mocs converted 17-of-18 attempts while the Knights went just 3-of-10. The Moccasins were outrebounded 40-30, but committed just 11 turnovers to Lynn's 17.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• Florida Southern improved to 28-14 all-time against Lynn, and won its sixth-straight against the Knights dating back to 2014. The Moccasins moved to 13-9 when facing the Knights in Boca Raton.
• Camille Giardina scored a game high 29 points on 9-of-13 shooting. She also converted all five of her free-throw attempts and recorded two rebounds, two assists and a steal. Giardina scored 16 points in the first half.
• Anja Fuchs-Robetin (13) and Anissa Toumi (12) also scored in double figures off the bench as the Moccasins started the game with a four-guard look. Elsa Landberg pulled down a team-best six rebounds.
• Lynn finished with the advantage in points in the paint (40-38), fast break points (16-6), and second-chance points (15-13). The Mocs finished with the edge in bench scoring (27-23) and points off turnovers (26-9).

• Florida Southern travels to Nova Southeastern for a 2 p.m. contest on Saturday in a matchup of two of the SSC's top teams. The Moccasins return home next week with games against Florida Tech (Jan. 11) and Eckerd (Jan. 14).
