Box Score AUBURNDALE, FL – With Rodrigo Costa scoring two goals and assisting another, Florida National scored four times in the first 26 minutes and went on to win by that same margin for a 4-0 win over Florida Southern.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Conquistadors (7-0) scored their first goal six minutes into the game on a corner kick sent to the back post by Costa. A header by Adair Pimenta centered the ball for Pedro Veiga, who put his own header into the net for his fourth goal of the season.
- Costa scored the next two goals in the 16th and 18th minutes, the first of which came on a direct free kick from 25 yards. He then dribbled through the Moccasin defense for his second goal of the night, and sixth of the season, to give the Conquistadors a 3-0 lead.
- Gabriel Barbosa finished the scoring in the 26th minute by converting a cross from Veiga into his fourth goal of 2017.
- The Moccasins (3-2) out-shot the Conquistadors over the remainder of the match, with perhaps their best scoring chances coming in the 57th minute on a blocked shot taken by Fred Lundahl inside the box, and a flurry of activity in the 66th and 67th minutes that resulted in two corner kicks and a pair of shots taken by Rene Rivera and Georg Michajlov.
- Samuel Winning made his first start in goal for Florida Southern and made three saves, including two difficult chances on back-to-back shots in the 72nd minute. Those turned out to be the final shots taken by either team.
- Rodrigo Festuccia and Facundo Grimberg split the shutout for Florida National with each playing one half. Festuccia made two saves in the first half and Grimberg made one in the second.
