Box Score
TAMPA, FL – Chloe Hamm scored Florida Southern's first goal of the night for the second game in a row, and this time it turned out to be the only one the Moccasins needed. The freshman from Los Alamitos, California put the Mocs ahead a little over five minutes into the game as Florida Southern went on to a 1-0 win over Tampa Saturday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Tampa had the first scoring chance of the night with a corner kick and shot by Miranda Gonzalez a little over four minutes into the game, but Hamm's goal at the 5:06 mark held up the rest of the way as the Moccasins (4-1-1, 2-1 Sunshine State Conference) handed the Spartans (5-1-1, 2-1) their first loss of the season.
- Following their early goal, the Moccasins would have two more shots in the sixth and eighth minutes by Megan Styron and Hamm again, before the game settled into more of a defensive battle for the remainder of the first half. After Hamm's attempt in the eighth minute, neither team would take another until the 35th minute when Rachel Peck had a shot saved by Caroline Frykgard.
- The Spartans went more than 35 minutes between their first and second shots, and the Mocs held a 5-3 edge in that department going into halftime.
- In the second half, Tampa's offense awoke but it still wasn't enough to dent the scoreboard against a Florida Southern defense that posted its third shutout of the season. The Spartans out-shot the Moccasins 11-1 over the final 45 minutes, and the Mocs also had to withstand nine corner kicks, but Helena Norrstrom made four saves to keep Tampa off the board. The Mocs also got a full 90 minutes of strong defensive work from Gaelyn Crowder, Juliana Guida and Jess Goedde, as well as Elanee Otto.
