LAKELAND, FL - Lorena Rionda picked up a pair of wins to advance in singles play at the ITA South Regional Championships held Friday at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center. Rionda downed Dorotea Hanzek of Montevallo, 6-1, 6-4, in her opening round match and then topped Daryna Gukaysan of West Alabama, 6-1, 7-5. She will face Nina Furmaniak of Saint Leo in Saturday's winner bracket action.

In other singles matches, Natalija Popovic, Selin Devrimci, Minnie Kim, and Magda Stepnik each won their opening match, but all five fell in the second round and will play in the consolation bracket on Saturday.

In doubles, Devrimci and Kim downed Stefanie Mehlich and Karolin Kirchtag of Alabama-Huntsville, 8-2 and will play Marta Vicens Miquel and Madeleine Gauthier of Saint Leo Saturday morning. Stepnik and Rionda also won their first-round match, beating Elvira Edstrom and Nicole Reich of Palm Beach Atlantic, 8-2, and will play Elenore Barrere and Julie Razafindranaly of Barry on Saturday.

Tournament action continues through Monday.
