Box Score TALLAHASSEE, FLA. – The Florida Southern College women's basketball team played an exhibition game at Florida State on Sunday afternoon, and fell 104-46. One of the best teams in the country, the Seminoles hosted the game at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center, in beautiful downtown Tallahassee.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Florida State opened the game with four quick points, before sophomore forward Ashley Shell hit a layup to put the Mocs on the board.
- The Seminoles extended the early lead to seven points, before sophomore guard Mackenzie Steele made the first of her two three-pointers of the quarter to trim the lead to four.
- The size and quickness of the Seminoles began to take control, with the hosts controlling the backboards (8-3) and dominating inside the paint (18-4).
- After ten minutes, the Seminoles led 24-15.
- In the second quarter, the Noles took charge, outscoring the Mocs 25-3, taking a 49-18 lead at the half.
- As the second half opened, the Noles continued to push the tempo, but the Mocs rediscovered their offense. FSC shot 37.5 percent in the quarter, with three's coming from junior guard Monet Burkett and freshman forward Aubrey Burke
- In the fourth quarter, Burkett began to find her stroke, hitting a pair of three's early in the quarter to fire up the Red and White.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- While official AP Division I rankings will not be released until next week, Florida State has been pegged as high as 11th in the nation by Lindy's and ESPNW.
- Steele led the Mocs in scoring with 14 points. She made four field goals on the afternoon, including two three's, and went 4-of-6 from the free throw line.
- Burkett found her shot, scoring all nine of her points on the day on three three-pointers.
- Shell and senior forward Katerina Pazzaglia-Khomenko each added five points and one rebound apiece.
- For the game FSC shot 28.8 percent, making 17 of 59 shot attempts.
