Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. - Florida Southern College women's soccer conceded an early goal to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in a 2-0 loss on Wednesday night in Daytona Beach. The Mocs (4-7-2, 1-5-2 SSC) were able to limit the Eagles (8-3-1, 6-1-1 SSC) to just a single goal in each half. Jenny Staten recorded three saves for the fifth time this season.
IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles opened the scoring early as Marie Myhrvold Seim fired home the games' first shot off a cross from the right side to give the home team a 1-0 advantage in the third minute. Just four minutes later, Ragnheidur Gardarsdo looked to add on a second goal for Embry-Riddle as she slipped past the Mocs defense and just missed the net.
- In the 15th minute, Rachel Peck nearly got the Mocs on the board as her shot to the top right of the goal was pushed away by the Eagles goalkeeper, Dana Ruchti, for her first save on the night. In the 29th minute, the home team stormed down the pitch and Rita Okoro took a ball from across the box and fired off a shot right at a diving Staten for her first save of the night.
- Following a blocked shot by the Eagles, junior Chloe Hamm nearly snuck one past Ruchti as she fired one from the top of the box that the Eagles keeper knocked in the air and corralled as she fell to the ground. Embry-Riddle would take a 1-0 lead into the 15-minute break.
- Senior Kaitlyn Svopa kept the score at 1-0 as she cleared a ball that slipped past a diving Staten in the 51st minute. With a crowded box, Staten made the leap to grab the ball out of the air and keep the Mocs deficit to one. After a foul by the Eagles, they would get the ball back and take it down the field. Staten would make a run at the ball as Seim would make her way toward the net and get tripped up by Staten in the box. Seim sized up the goal and put her shot past the diving Staten to give the home team a 2-0 advantage. Two minutes later Peck would nearly cut the deficit back to one as she sent a shot just right of the net. In the 81st minute, Caitlyn Lowery put a shot over the Eagles' defense but it went right of the goal.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
● For the seventh time, this season and the third-straight match the Mocs have held the opposition to single-digit shots. Staten made three saves on the night as the Eagles fired off nine shots on the night.
● Florida Southern was outshot by Embry-Riddle, 9-6 and had one corner to the Eagles two.
● The Moccasins are now 4-4-3 all-time against Embry-Riddle, including a 1-3-1 mark in Daytona Beach.
