Women's Tennis Finishes Day One at Hatter Invitational

DELAND, Fla. – Florida Southern College women's tennis won four of its six singles matchups against Division-I foe Southeast Missouri on Friday morning at the Stetson Rec Courts as the Moccasins competed in day one of the Hatter Invitational. The Moccasins will hit the courts again on Saturday with an afternoon matchup against Nova Southeastern.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Laura Vetter earned a 6-3 first-set win over Romana Tavajova, but fell 6-3 in set two and 10-7 in the tiebreaker. 
  • Minnie Kim pulled out a three-set victory over Kseniya Zonsva, rebounding from a 6-4 loss in the first set with a 6-4 second set and a dominant 10-2 tiebreaker.
  • Magda Stepnik lost a nail-biter match, dropping a 7-6 (3) first set and 7-5 second set to Vivian Lai.
  • Lola Asis dominated in set one with a 6-2 first set, defeating Teona Velkoska after a close, 7-5 second set.
  • Mathilda Vidgren rallied after a 7-6 (8) first-set loss against Sneha Sinha with a 7-6 (5) second set and a 10-7 tiebreaker to win her matchup.
  • Gabby Hesse sealed the fourth singles win of the day for the Moccasins with a 7-6 (4) first set and a 6-3 second set against Manuela Barriga.
  • Kim and Vidgren fell 6-1 to Tavajova and Zonsva.
  • Vetter and Stepnik dropped a close, 6-4 match to Velkoska and Lai.
  • Barriga and Sinha finished the doubles sweep over the Mocs with a 6-3 victory over Asis and Hesse.

UP NEXT

  • Southern will take on conference rival Nova Southeastern at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Rec Courts in their next round-robin match.
