#8 Florida Southern Falls to #3 Embry-Riddle 6-1

LAKELAND, Fla. — No. 8  Florida Southern College women's tennis (16-4) fell to No. 3 Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (21-1) by a score of 6-1 on Saturday at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center. The Moccasins secured their lone point with a victory at the No. 1 singles position.

The Eagles secured the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Mariana Cabrera and Ashley Moinard defeated Annika Berrendorf and Jolie Miller, 6-2, at No. 3 doubles, while the No. 43 pair of Fernandez Junquera and Benedetta Sensi edged Emily Jennewein and Ronja Scheuermann, 7-5, at No. 2 doubles. Florida Southern's No. 29 ranked duo of Kennedi Brown and Josie Holderbach earned a 6-3 victory over Laura Cuesta Bret and Amelie Gindl, the No. 37 ranked pair, at No. 1 doubles.

In singles play, No. 20 ranked Holderbach of the Mocs opened with a decisive 6-0, 6-2 win over No. 21 Gindl at No. 1 singles, leveling the dual score at 1-1. The Eagles regained the lead at No. 3 singles, where Sensi defeated Jennewein, ranked No. 38, 6-4, 6-4. Moinard extended the lead for the Eagles at No. 5 singles with a 1-6, 6-0, 6-2 comeback over Miller.

The match was clinched for the Eagles when Cuesta Bret secured a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Scheuermann at No. 2 singles, bringing the score to 4-1. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University added two more points in the post-clinch matches. Franz Kremerskothen won 6-3, 6-4 over Diana Volkov at No. 6 singles, and No. 28 Fernandez Junquera closed with a 7-6(7), 7-6(9) win against Berrendorf at No. 4 singles. The final dual score stood at 6-1 in favor of the Eagles.

The Mocs will await the start of the Sunshine State Conference Championships, taking place April 24-26 at the Fort Lauderdale, Fla. NSU Tennis Center at Rollins Hills, hosted by Nova Southeastern University.
