Hockey's Win Streak Ends as Mocs Fall to Titans

LAKELAND, Fla. - Florida Southern College men's ice hockey program ended a program record four-game win streak in a 6-1 loss to Eastern Florida State College on Saturday at the Lakeland Ice Arena. Jamie Calhoun was the lone Moc to find the back of the net in the beginning of the third period to save the potential shutout. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Titans opened the scoring up midway through the first period when Stevie Rossi slipped one past Logan Cody off an assist by Shane O'Neil. Rossi scored again in the first with 4:50 left off an assist by Brennes Blankenship during a power play. 

  • EFSC's Ryan Just made it 3-0 in the Titans favor with 56 seconds left in the first period off an assist by Jake Kinsman. 

  • The only score in the second period was off a penalty shot by Will Pattens of the Titans, who made it 4-0 with 10:15 left in the period. 

  • Calhoun set one between the pipes in favor of the Mocs with 15:26 left in the final frame off an assist from Dylan Doyle

  • The Titans responded in the final minutes with two goals in a span of five seconds. Connor Webster scored off an assist by Kinsman with 2:02 left to play before O'Neil found the back of the net by way of a Rossi assist with 1:57 left. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Cody had 28 saves in the contest, including a game high 12 in the first period. 

  • Southern had 23 shots on goal, including a game high 11 in the middle period. The Mocs lone goal came in the final frame, which saw a game low of six shots on goal. 

  • The loss ends the program's four-game win streak, which was the longest in program history as the team moves to 4-4 on the season.

  • The Mocs are set to play again in the inaugural Ice War on I-4, where Florida Southern is set to take on USF (Dec. 6, 8:15 pm), the Citadel (Dec. 7, 4:15 pm), Eastern Florida State (Dec. 7, 11 pm) and a team yet to be announced on Dec. 8.
