Men’s Ice Hockey Seeks Title at AAU College Hockey National Championships

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - The Florida Southern College men's ice hockey team heads to West Chester, Pa. to compete in the 2024 AAU College Hockey National Championships over the next five days. The Moccasins are one of eight teams in Division III and enter as the No. 2 seed.

The action begins with three days of pool play as Division III is split into two pools. In Pool A are the top-seed University of Miami, No. 4 seed Stony Brook, No. 6 seed Rochester and the No. 8 seed William & Mary. Pool B consists of the No. 2 seed Moccasins, No. 3 seed Kennesaw State, No. 5 seed Quincy and No. 7 seed Alvernia. Following three days of pool play the top two finishers in each pool will advance to the National Semifinals on Tuesday, March 12 with the National Championship schedule for Wednesday, March 13.

FSC's journey begins with a battle against Alvernia tomorrow, Saturday, March 9 at 9:15 a.m. The Mocs will then take on Quincy College at 8:15 p.m. on Sunday followed by the Mocs' final pool play game versus Kennesaw State on Monday at 2 p.m. The Mocs have faced just one of the three teams in their pool so far this season and that was a 6-4 victory over Kennesaw State in the semifinals of the CHS DIII Playoffs.

Florida Southern enters the tournament having won five of its last six contest with the lone setback coming in the final of the CHS DIII Playoffs against Miami who sits as the No. 1 seed at this weekend's National Championship.

This season marks the second-straight year FSC has advanced to the College Hockey National Championships. Last season, the Mocs went 2-1 at the event including defeating the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds before falling to the No. 5 seed in the final game of the season. The Moccasins fell in a three-way tiebreaker that sent the fifth-seed Widener and third-seed Farmingdale to the semifinals.

The Mocs enter the tournament with a 16-5 record on the season and have won 10 of their last 13 contests. Alvernia is 13-8 and just went 2-0 at the DVCHC Playoffs defeating Bucknell in the Championship of the American Division. Quincy College was 8-6 as of Feb. 25 and finished at the top of the New England Independent Hockey Conference (NEIHC) Division III standings. Kennesaw State entered as the No. 3 seed of the CHS DIII Playoffs in Lakeland back in late February and fell to the Mocs in the semifinals 6-4 before dropping the third place contest 3-1.

The Mocs will begin their journey to the title tomorrow, March 9 at 9:15 a.m. as they face Alvernia in the opening contest of the Division III National Championship. All games will be streamed live on Black Dog Hockey HERE.
