LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College men's ice hockey team will host the College Hockey South Tournament this weekend at the Lakeland Ice Arena. The top eight teams in the conference will begin first-round play today, Friday, Feb. 23, at 1 pm, with the Mocs taking on Florida State University at 6:30 pm in the CHS "Game of the Week".
FSC reached its highest national ranking in the most recent AAU Division 3 release and received an invitation to participate in the upcoming AAU National Championship in West Chester, Pa. The Mocs are currently ranked third in the nation, climbing three spots from sixth, behind only Miami and Niagara (#1 and #2 respectively).
Last week, FSC finished the regular season by beating the University of Florida, 6-2, capping off a 14-4 record (13-2 in Division 3). This marks FSC's best-winning percentage in team history. Leading the conference in goals scored, the Mocs are paced by forwards Will Marshall (34-34-68), Michael Woll (21-22-43), and Paul Rigolini (23-9-32). FSC has held opponents to little success, thanks to a strong defensive core of Noah Gabryluk, Jon Burkhart, Philip Chevrette, and Kaleb Van Horn. Jason Cribbs leads all goalies in the league with 14 wins.
