Hanson Records Triple-Double as Mocs Dominate Lynn

Box Score

LAKELAND, Fla. – Brett Hanson tallied the fourth triple-double in school history as Florida Southern College men's basketball picked up its sixth-straight win in a 99-84 win over Lynn on Saturday evening in Sunshine State Conference action at Streamline Sale Arena at Jenkins Field House.

The No. 19 Moccasins (9-1, 3-1 SSC) started with a bang by outscoring the Fighting Knights (5-3, 1-3) 7-0 over the opening two minutes of action and rolled to their seventh double-digit win of the season.

Hanson's triple-double, the first of his career, came on the strength of 26 points, 11 rebounds, and 12 assists. He joins Dylan Travis, Jarel Spellman, and Jack Rauch as the only Mocs in program history to accomplish the feat.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Florida Southern got off to a fantastic start by taking a 7-0 lead when Jack Rauch hit a jumper in the paint with 18:48 on the clock, but Lynn was able to steady the ship and battled back to slice the deficit to one (15-14) on Jordan Allen's layup with 15:34 to go in the first half.
  • The Mocs were eventually able to go back on top by 12 (33-21) thanks to an 18-7 run over the next five minutes. Southern would never lead by less than seven for the rest of the half and took a 15-point lead (39-34) into the locker room. Hanson scored 15 points and dished out eight assists in the opening 20 minutes, while Jalyn Hinton (14) and Rauch (12) also scored in double figures in the first half.
  • Florida Southern dominated the second half, leading by as many 28 points on Hinton's dunk with 10:35 to play. The lead allowed the Moccasins to empty their bench in the final minutes of action, and Lynn closed things out on an 11-0 run to make the final seem much more respectable than it was.
  • Hanson and Hinton led all players with 26 points each, while Hinton added six rebounds, five blocks, and three assists. The duo went a combined 23-of-34 (67.7 percent) from the floor. Rauch finished with 19 points, while E.J. Dambreville added 14.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Florida Southern improved to 41-16 all-time against Lynn, including a 19-8 record when facing the Fighting Knights at home. The 99 points scored by the Moccasins are the most they have ever scored in the series against Lynn.
  • Hanson's triple-double was the fourth for the Mocs in the past five seasons. All four triple-doubles in school history have come under head coach Mike Donnelly. Florida Southern had played 2,158 games without a triple-double until Dylan Travis recorded 11 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists against Miles on Dec. 20, 2015.
  • The Mocs were outrebounded 54-44, but outscored Lynn 58-44 in the paint and had 10 total dunks on the night. Hinton recorded nine of those dunks and had at least five blocks for the third time this season. He has tallied three or more blocks in all seven games in which he has played.

UP NEXT

  • Florida Southern closes out the calendar year against Northwood (Dec. 20) and American International (Dec. 21) before returning to Sunshine State Conference action at Florida Tech (Jan. 2), before hosting No. 1 Nova Southeastern (Jan. 4).
