LAKELAND, Fla. - Florida Southern College's ice hockey program defeated the University of South Florida twice to finish third at the inagural Ice War on I-4, hosted at the Lakleand Ice Arena in Lakeland, Fla. The Mocs went 2-2 during the tournament, including 2-1 and 6-4 victories against the Bulls of South Florida. In all, Southern scored 13 goals in the tournament off of 75 shots.
Florida Southern 2-1 South Florida
Goals: Jamie Calhoun (Assists: Jake Comisar, Max Tielbur), Christian Nichols (unassited)
Calhoun opened up the scoring with 9:05 left in the final frame before South Florida tied it with 2:32 left in the contest. 20 seconds later, with just over two minutes left to play, Nichols scored the game winner unassisted to open the innagural Ice War on I-4 with a win for the Mocs. Logan Cody recorded 13 saves in the contest with only one goal allowed.
Florida Southern 0-4 Citadel
The Mocs were unable to hold off an innitial surge from the Citadel in the first period, allowing 3 of the Bulldogs 17 shots to find the back of the net. Offensively, Southern was shut down throughout the game by the Citadel, shooting only five times throughout the game.
Florida Southern 5-7 East Florida State
Goals: Ryley Pickrem (Assists: Jake Comisar, Jamie Calhoun), Comisar (unassisted), Comisar (Assist: Christian Nichols), Comisar (unassisted), Ethan Oliva (Assist: Comisar, Nichols)
Comisar recorded a hat trick and two assists against EFS but it wasn't enough as the Mocs were overpowered in the final frame. Heading into the third period, the Mocs had scored two unansered to start the third tied 3-3. EFS opened up play with three straight goals within the span of a minute to set the scoreline to 3-6 with 10:26 left in play. State scored once more with 6:46 left to play for their seventh goal before the Mocs mounted their comeback, scoring back to back goals to bring them within two.

Goals: Zach Wilson (Asssit: Christian Nichols), Jamie Calhoun (Asssist: Wilson), Calhoun (Asssist: Wilson), Jake Comisar (Assist: Wilson), Robert Dromerhouser (Assists: Cahoun, Nichols), Ryan Doyle (Assist: John Koch)
Wilson and Calhoun opened up scoring for Southern in the first period to launch the Mocs to a 3-1 lead heading into the first intermission. The Bulls pulled one goal back in the middle period to reduce the Mocs lead to one(3-2) heading into the final frame. Three separate mocs scored in the first ten minutes of the final frame to extend the lead to three (6-3) before South Florida tacked on one final goal to end the game.
