MACON, Ga. - Florida Southern College women's tennis continued to compete at the Mercer Gridiron Classic on Saturday, with the doubles pairing of Gabby Hesse and Lola Asis advancing as far as the doubles flight B semifinal match in the consolation bracket. The Moccasins will conclude their competition at the tournament today in Macon, Ga.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the consolation bracket of singles flight A, Mathilda Vidgren fell 6-1, 6-4 to Alexia Witthaus Vine of UAB while Magda Stepnik was victorious over Erin Allen of Belmont in a 6-2, 6-3 round of sixteen match. Stepnik's run ended in the quarterfinal match against Charlotte Van Diemen of Georgia Southern in a 6-4, 6-2 final.
- In the second consolation bracket of singles flight A, Minnie Kim fell in two 6-0 sets to Mary Weston Courville of Mercer and Lola Asis fell 6-3, 6-0 to Mila Hartig of Georgia Southern in round of sixteen matches. Vidgren and Laura Vetter were winners in their round of sixteen matches against Kennesaw State's Juliana Castellanos (1-6, 7-5, 1-0 (6)) and Georgia Southern's Paula Hijos (6-1, 6-1), respectively.
- In the consolation bracket of singles flight B, Gabby Hesse fell in a tightly-contested round of sixteen match to Kennesaw State's Ellie Baker (7-6(5), 4-6, 1-0(8)).
- In the consolation bracket of doubles flight A, Kim and Vetter fell in the quarterfinal match to Lauren Carelli and Somer Henry of Belmont (6-2).
- In the consolation bracket of doubles flight B, Hesse and Asis fell in the semifinal match to Nikki Christiansen and Drew Hawkins of Belmont (6-0).
