PENSACOLA, Fla. - Florida Southern College women's tennis saw a trio of Moccasins succeed in singles action as they competed in Pensacola at the ITA South Regional on Saturday. Lola Asis advanced to the quarterfinal of the main singles bracket while newcomers Mathilda Vidgren and Laura Vetter both advanced through the singles consolation bracket into quarterfinal appearances of their own. The Moccasins will continue with ITA South Regional action today in Pensacola.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In single bracket action, Asis defeated Leonie Nutz of UAH 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the quarterfinals of the main bracket. Asis then fell in tightly-contested 5-7, 7-5, 10-4 match to Karolina Silwanowicz of West Florida. Magda Stepnik also had her main bracket run cut short in a round of 16 match against Marta Vicens Miquel of Saint Leo in a 6-3, 6-2 final.
- In doubles bracket action, Asis and Vetter fell in their quarterfinal match to Razafinfranaly and Farfan of Barry, 8-3.
- The singles consolation bracket saw two new Mocs take center stage, as Vetter and Vidgren both advanced to the quarterfinal round of the bracket. Vetter earned her spot after defeating Maria Casas of Auburn Montgomery, 6-3, 7-6 and winning a round of 16 matchup against Shelby Groeneveld of Palm Beach Atlantic (6-3, 5-4 def.). Vidgren cruised early, dispatching Julia McCarty of Mississippi College in two 6-0 sets and defeating Samantha Echevarria of West Florida in a 6-1, 6-4 contest.
