HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Florida Southern College women's tennis started its spring break trip on the right foot with a 7-0 victory over Newberry College on Saturday in Hilton Head, S.C. The No. 18 Moccasins (3-4) gave the Wolves (13-2) their second loss of the season while only dropping one set in the entire match.
"Today was a solid all-around performance," head coach Trish Riddell said. "A good start to our weekend."
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Doubles saw the Mocs drop the only set of the day as Elisa Aguirre and Judit Gonzalez won 6-1 in the No. 1 flight. Minnie Kim and Magda Stepnik won in the No. 2 flight and Mathilda Vidgren and Lola Asis won in the No. 3 flight, both by 6-1 scorelines.
- Vidgren cruised in the No. 6 flight with two 6-0 sets with Kim finishing shortly after with a 6-0, 6-4 victory in the No. 2 flight.
- Asis clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-1 showing in the No. 5 flight while Laura Vetter triumphed 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 1 flight.
- Isabella Bolivar and Stepnik closed the sweep for the Mocs with victories in the No. 4 and 3 flights, respectively. Both Moccasins won two 6-2 sets in their flights.
UP NEXT:
The Moccasins will face Tiffin on Sunday and Clarion on Monday before returning from South Carolina.
