MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Florida Southern College men's tennis team competed in the Buccaneer Invitational this weekend, hosted by Barry University, as a last competition before the spring 2022 campaign.
The Mocs were up against student-athletes from Barry, Keiser University, Palm Beach Atlantic University, and Flagler College.
Oscar Sohl had another great meet to follow up his performance last weekend at the Saint Leo Hidden Duals. Sohl finished with two match wins in singles as well as a great doubles performance.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sohl went to his draw's finals to face Tim Buettner in a close 6-4/7-6 loss to notch second place. He beat Jesse Hartog of Keiser and Luis Platos of PBA to make it to the finals
- After winning his first match against Juan Marrero of Keiser 7-6/6-0, Matteo Feggi lost against Erik Carlsten of PBA and narrowly missed out against Quinn McLeod of Barry in a third set tie-breaker
- Valentin Hertweck had three matches in the meet, but unable to come out with a win, as he lost to opponents from Barry and Flagler
- Chris Fok Kow faced Arnau Rodriguez from Barry in a 6-2/6-2 loss, and then went up against Jorge Santamaria from PBA but lost 6-3/6-0
- For Erik Nordblom, he met Charly Zick of Keiser and Philipp Lemken of Flagler but unable to come out with a win
- Hikaru Nagoshi faced McLeod of Barry which came down to a third set nail-biter but unable to come out with the win. He then faced Diego Amilibia of Flagler which he retired for a Flagler win
- For doubles, Fok Kow and Sohl had a great showing to win two matches against Keiser and Barry doubles, but lost to Flagler to stay 2-1 in the meet
- Feggi and Hertweck teamed up for a win against Flagler, before losses to Keiser and PBA opponents
- Finally, Nordblom and Nagoshi were paired in a loss to Barry and PBA doubles
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- This meet marks the last competition before spring 2022 season begins on February 11th
- Sohl led the singles competition for FSC for a second place finish and two match wins
- Sohl teamed up with Fok Kow to lead the doubles in a two-win performance
