LAKELAND, Fla. – Both the men and women swimming teams at Florida Southern College are nationally ranked in the December poll of College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Division II Men and Women's Swimming rankings.
The men's team is tied for sixth place, after being placed eighth in the November poll. The women's team moved up to 15
th nationally, tied with Rollins, after an initial 19
th place preseason poll.
The Mocs have been very successful so far this year as both teams have wins and individual podium finishes. On the men' side,
Kyle Micallef broke a school record for best 50 yard freestyle and set a new Sunshine State Conference record with a time of 19.59, earning an automatic qualification to the NCAA Championships in March. Freshman,
Ludovico Viberti has shined in the breaststroke with multiple event wins and top FSC scores. Each has been named an SSC Men's Swimmer of the Week one time this year.
For the women's team, freshman
Olivia Miles has dominated distance events with
Jazzy Hoffmann adding strong performances for an SSC Women's Swimmer of the Week selection. Sophomore,
Emily Peck has performed very well in the breaststroke, as she and others have posted great times for a strong chance for an NCAA Championship appearance.
Both teams are deep into practice before their next meet against Nova Southeastern on January 21
st. Their last home meet of the season will be January 28
th against Florida Tech.
