FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Florida Southern men's team earn a big win on the road as the women take a hard-fought loss in a Sunshine State Conference dual meet against national ranked Nova Southeastern swim teams Friday afternoon at the NSU Aquatics Center.
The men's team, ranked eighth in the latest CSCAA rankings, took down the No. 12 Sharks in a close battle. The Mocs had 143 points, as the Sharks finished with 120 points. Florida Southern's No. 20 women's team lost their meet with a team score of 89, as No. 4 Nova Southeastern women's team win with 173 total points.
Matteo Zampese led the men with three event wins in the meet, as
Jazzy Hoffmann took the sole FSC women's event win.
In the second event of the meet, the men's team won the 200 yard medley relay over the Sharks to carry momentum into podium finishes for
Keith Peristeridis (second) and
Elder Oliveira (third) in the 1000 yard freestyle.
Brandon Dyck took the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 48.68, as teammate
Brandon Wilson was right behind in second. Dyck also had the best time in the 200 yard backstroke for his second event win of the day.
A full sweep of the 100 yard breaststroke boosted the points for FSC as Zampese finished with the win ahead of
Ludovico Viberti and
Ludwig Mueller. Zampese followed up with a 200 yard breaststroke and 200 yard IM wins later that afternoon.
Miguel Bernotti and
Kyle Micallef each had event wins with many other swimmers for the men with podium finishes.
On the women's side, Hoffmann had Florida Southern's sole event win as she finished with a time of 24.26 in the 50 yard freestyle with fellow Moccasin
Rachel Cunningham finished third with 24.73. Hoffmann later took second in the 100 yard freestyle. Freshman
Olivia Miles finished second in the 500 and 1000 yard freestyle events, just half a second behind first place in the 500 yard event.
As the Mocs continue to improve times for NCAA Championship selections next month, several other swimmers had podium finishes.
Maja Eriksson and
Erin McCann had a great showing in the 200 yard freestyle to take second and third. Both
Allie Brinton and
Emily Peck finished with a second and third place finish each as Brinton worked the 100 and 200 butterfly and Peck competed in the 200 breaststroke and 200 IM. Sophomore
Teagan Michalek placed third in 100 backstroke and freshman
Alizee Pelletier posted third place times in both the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke.
