ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Florida Southern College men's soccer team lost a hard-fought battle against the Eckerd Tritons in Sunshine State Conference action on Wednesday evening.
Henri Tophoven recorded the Moccasin's lone goal, and
Kyle Carr posted his first collegiate assist in the 2-1 decision at Johnson Field in St. Petersburg.Â

After the game, the Mocs currently stand at 2-4-5 overall and are 0-3-3 in the SSC while the Tritons move to 4-2-4 on the season and are 3-2-1 in the conference.

Throughout the first half, Florida Southern held Eckerd scoreless until the last two minutes of the half when the Tritons' Tommy Shepard slipped one by on the right side of the keeper to take a 1-0 lead.Â

Despite the deficit, the Mocs played a strong first half with five shots, including a brilliant shot on goal from
Felix Tonne that was barely saved by the Eckerd keeper.Â

Early on in the second half, Eckerd scored another goal to take a 2-0 lead with just under 30 minutes of play remaining.Â

The Mocs continued to push offensively including Tophoven's header in the 74th minute that nearly went into the back of the net before the keeper got in front of it.Â

However, only a few minutes later Tophoven rifled a shot into the back of the net off an assist from Carr. It marks Tophoven's 12th goal of the season, which currently leads the SSC.Â

The Moccasins had a few opportunities in the last few minutes, but the score remained 2-1 until the finale in favor of Eckerd.

AJ Pearce faced 15 shots from the Tritons and posted seven saves, which is tied for his highest this season.Â

The Mocs are back at home on Monday, Oct. 17 as they make up a game against Trinity College (Fla.) that was originally set for October 4. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Berend Field.
