Box Score SAINT LEO, Fla. - Florida Southern Softball fell in the Sunshine State Conference opener 6-1 against Saint Leo on Friday night.
Senior
Jadin Dewith led the way going 2-for-3 from the plate followed by junior
Kelsey Peck with a double and a run for the Mocs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Peck started the game off with a double on the first at-bat of the game. Peck moved around the bases getting into scoring position.
Destiny Colgate hit an RBI sacrifice fly scoring Peck to put the Mocs on the board early 1-0.
In the bottom of the first, the Lions scored three to take the lead as
Myah Moy makes a diving play to get out of the inning 3-1 in favor of Saint Leo.
In the bottom of the second
Mel Rogers sent two Lions back to the dugout with strikeouts to get out of the inning with no damage done for the Mocs.
Moy hit a single up the middle to get a rally going for the Mocs as
Victoria Rodriguez reached on a shortstop error to move pinch-runner
Frankie Raeckers to second base. The runners advanced on a deep fly ball from
Maddi Conner but all runners were stranded with the score still 3-1 at the top of the fourth.
To start the bottom of the fourth, Peck made a diving play at second to get them out, but the Lions put another run on the board to make it 4-1 going into the top of the fifth.
Dewith singled to deep left field but was stranded at first base for the Mocs. The Lions Alyssa Perez turned on the jets and scored from first base on an RBI double to finish the fifth inning ahead by four.
The Lions added to another run from Perez in the bottom of the sixth to make it 6-1. The Mocs rallied late in the top of the seventh with back-to-back hits from
Macayla Brady and Dewith but the damage was already done and Saint Leo took game one of the series.
UP NEXT
The Mocs return to action tomorrow afternoon against Saint Leo. The first pitch is set for 1 p.m. in the doubleheader.
