LAKELAND, Fla. - Florida Southern softball split a double-header with Flagler in their first home series of the year, on Wednesday afternoon. The Mocs were given their first loss of the season, falling to the Saints 4-5 in the first game. However, they came out on top with a 2-1 victory in the second and final game of the afternoon.
Southern is now 4-1 on the season while Flagler moves to 2-3.
FSC racked up 15 hits across the two games led by senior
Jadin Dewith, who drove four hits throughout the afternoon.
Lane Edgington earned her first win of the season, pitching a complete game, and gave up no earned runs.
Florida Southern 4, Flagler 5
Florida Southern opened the series very strong as they immediately went up 4-1 after the first inning. However, a 4-run rally in the fourth inning from Flagler was too much for the Mocs to overcome, and they were handed their first loss of the season.
As a group, the women tallied a total of seven hits throughout the game.
Jadyn Bushnell contributed two hits in three at-bats while
Kiki Morris,
Myah Moy,
Destiny Colgate,
Maddi Conner, and Dewith all had one.
Moy, Colgate, and Conner each hit a double along with Colgate, catcher
Victoria Rodriguez, and left fielder
Leanna Kelly each brought in one runner.
Mel Rogers pitched a complete game on the mound and held the Saints to five runs in 10 hits while striking out five.
Florida Southern 2, Flagler 1
The second game of the afternoon was dominated by pitching as there were only three runs scored in total. Dewith drove home a run in the top of the first which was answered with a run from Flagler in the bottom of the first. Both teams were held scoreless until the seventh inning when Moy singled to the right-center to send
Kelsey Peck home for the game-winning run.
Southern racked up nine hits in the game including three from Dewith, two from Moy, and two from Conner, Morris, and Rodriguez had one hit each.
Edgington earned the win in the circle as she gave up only four hits, one walk, and zero earned runs. She also struck out two batters.
