TAMPA, Fla. – Florida Southern softball fell at No. 14 Tampa Friday night in a non-conference doubleheader, 3-2, 6-0, at Naimoli Stadium.
The Moccasins (7-12) and the Spartans (17-8) played to eight innings in game one which Tampa captured 3-2. Florida Southern took an early lead, 2-0, in the top of the first inning. With
Kelsey Peck and
Jadin Dewith on base,
Destiny Colgate would send one up the middle for a two-run double to take the early lead.
Tampa rallied with one in the first and the tying run in the second before scoring the game winner on an error in the eighth.
In game two, the Spartans scored a run in the second, two in the fifth, and three in the sixth.
On the day, Florida Southern scattered nine hits with
Kelsey Peck,
Myah Moy, and
Kiki Morris each tallying two hits.
Jadin Dewith,
Maddi Conner,
Mariah Rodriguez, and
Destiny Colgate all had a hit between the two games.
Kayla Hickey open the night pitching 7.2 innings in game one tallying three strikeouts in her appearance. She returned to the circle in game two for five more innings while
Mahailee Parker made an appearance for one inning of work.
Florida Southern returns to action March 15 for a doubleheader against Bloomsburg at 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at Chris Bellotto Field.
