ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -
Skyler Ralstin hit her first home run of the season to lead the Florida Southern College softball team to their first Sunshine State Conference win on Friday night as FSC defeated Eckerd 10-6.
With the win, the Mocs improve to 10-12 overall and 1-6 in the SSC.
Maddi Conner led the way going 3-for-4 from the plate while bringing in three runners.
Destiny Colgate and
Kiki Morris also had three hits on the day with two RBIs from Colgate. Both Conner and Colgate hit a double in the game as Colgate scored three runs and Morris with one.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Senior
Jadin Dewith got the ball rolling with a single right over the pitcher and down the middle.
Kelsey Peck bunted and reached on an error that moved Dewith two to put her at third and into scoring position. The Mocs continued to capitalize as freshman Colgate hit an RBI single to score Dewith and put FSC up 1-0 with no outs.
With Peck and Colgate in scoring positions clean-up hitter,
Myah Moy took a walk to load the bases. First baseman Conner doubled to deep right-center field to score Peck and Colgate and start the top of the first with a 3-0 lead over the Tritons.
Lane Edgington and company sent the Tritons down in order, ending the inning with a diving play by second baseman Colgate bringing the Mocs back to the plate with no damage done.
Colgate opened up the top of the third with a double deep to left-center field to put herself into scoring position for Southern. Conner was back to the plate for the Mocs and hit an RBI single to center field scoring Colgate to make it 4-0 to end the top of the third.
At the top of the fourth the hits continued to fly in the outfield as
Mariah Rodriguez and Morris both singled to get into scoring positions. The Mocs scored four more runs before the first out as Peck scored two hitting a ball deep into center field scoring Morris and
Leanna Kelly who came in to pinch run. Colgate and Moy both hit RBI singles to score two more before Ralstin hit a sac fly giving the Mocs a 9-0 lead after just four innings of play.
Eckerd scored four to cut the Mocs lead before
Cat Buckner steps into relief sending the Tritons back to the dugout with a strikeout looking and a strikeout swinging to end the fourth inning 9-4. FSC brought in
Mel Rogers and she strikes out two batters but not before Eckerd hits a two-run homer to come within three runs of the Mocs lead 9-6.
With two outs, Ralstin hits a solo home run for her first of the year to bring the final run across for the Mocs and end the game with their first victory 10-6. Rogers closed out the game, sending the first two batters down with strikeout swinging.
In the circle, Buckner earned the win, her third on the year, while Rogers gets the save striking out six batters.

The Mocs will close out the series tomorrow against Eckerd with a doubleheader in St. Petersburg. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
