MELBOURNE, Fla. - The Sunshine State Conference announced three Florida Southern College women's basketball student - athletes as All-SSC team members for the 2021-22 season.
Whitney Jacob was awarded Newcomer of the Year, while
Sara Wohlgemuth shared Freshman of the Year honors.
Julia Jenike was named to the All-SSC first team, along with Jacob who was also named to the All-SSC Newcomer team.
Jacob takes Newcomer of the Year honors after averaging 16.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.6 steals, and 29.0 minutes per game. The 5-11 graduate student forward from Parker, Colo., played in 25 of the Moccasins' 26 games this season, starting 19 times. Jacob is the first women's basketball athlete from FSC to win the award.
Wohlgemuth shares the Freshman of the Year honors with Lynn University's Rachel Romich for 2021-22. Wohlgemuth, a 5-4 guard from Madison, Conn., played in 26 games this season and averaged 6.2 points, 3.5 assists, 3.4 steals, and 26.5 minutes per game. Wohlgemuth becomes the 10th FSC player named Freshman of the Year, first since 2015-16.
Jenike is highlighted as just one of two All-SSC repeat winners as Jenike earned her third consecutive First Team honors. The graduate student is leading FSC in conference play with 301 total points, averaging 15.8 points per game. The Cincinnati, Ohio native has contributed 99 total boards, 54 assists, 27 steals, with a .413 3-point average.
All-conference selections and individual award winners are determined by a vote of Sunshine State Conference head coaches with oversight and approval from member institution Athletic Directors.
The Mocs advance to the semifinals of the SSC Championship tomorrow night as they host No.3-seed 17/RV Eckerd.
