MELBOURNE, Fla. - The Florida Southern College softball team hit the road on Friday evening to open up the Sunshine State Conference series against Florida Tech. The Mocs defeated the Panthers in game one of the series by a score of 4-3.
With the win, FSC improves to 13-14 on the season and 2-8 in the SSC.
Southern struck early in the top of the third when
Maddi Conner got the RBI scoring
Destiny Colgate for an unearned run to make it 1-0 after three complete innings.
The inning after the Mocs scored the remainder of their runs on a Colgate RBI double that scored two runs to increase their lead 3-0. The final run for Florida Southern was an RBI single from senior
Myah Moy with a single to left field that scored senior
Jadin Dewith for a 4-0 lead.
Florida Tech scored a run on a sac fly in the bottom of the fourth and tried to tie the game with a fielder's choice single in the bottom of the seventh but the Mocs defense and pitching from
Kayla Hickey gave the Mocs their second conference win of the season taking down the Panthers 4-3 to open up the series.
In the circle, Hickey got the nod going seven complete innings while striking out one to move to 3-3 on the year. From the plate, Mocs were led by designated player
Mariah Rodriguez who had another perfect day going 3-for-3 with one run scored. Colgate, Dewith, and Moy each had two hits on the day while Colgate brought in two runners followed by Conner and Moy with one apiece.

The Mocs return to action tomorrow as they face the Panthers in a doubleheader to close out the series. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
