LAKELAND, Fla. - The Florida Southern College Softball team opened up the Sunshine State Conference series against No. 11 University of Tampa, with a 4-1 loss on Friday afternoon on Chris Bellotto Field.
The Mocs started out strong, getting the first three outs of the game and quickly moving into the bottom of the 1st inning, as sophomore
Lane Edgington ended the top of the first with a strikeout. Senior
Jadin Dewith scored the only run for the Mocs after senior
Myah Moy hit a sac fly to right field that scored Dewith for an early 1-0 lead.
The Spartans tied the game in the top of the third from an RBI single to left field and later took the lead in the top of the fifth when scoring on an RBI single to center field to take a 3-1 lead over the Moccasins.
The Moccasins and Spartans continued to battle it out throughout the sixth inning with the Spartans inching their lead bringing the score 4-1 in the top of the 7th after another RBI single.
At the bottom of the seventh, Dewith singled down the left-field line, advancing
Kiki Morris to second.
Kelsey Peck then reached on fielder's choice and Morris advanced to third with
Leanna Kelly to run for Morris.
Destiny Colgate walked, loading the bases in the bottom of the 7th, but ultimately would fall in game one of the series 4-1 with bases loaded.

The Mocs will continue in the Sunshine State Conference series with a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon against No.11 Tampa. The first pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. with seniors being recognized prior to the first pitch.
