MELBOURNE, Fla. -
Henri Tophoven scored two goals to lead the Florida Southern College men's soccer team to a 2-2 draw with No. 6 Florida Tech on Saturday evening. The Mocs are now 2-3-3 overall while the Panthers move to 5-0-3.
Tophoven scored early on in the first half to take a 1-0 lead for the Mocs. A brilliant defensive effort held the Panthers scoreless for the remainder of the half, and the Mocs held their 1-0 lead going into the half.
The Panthers came out with a vengeance in the second half as Ettore Casadei knocked in a goal in the 48th minute to tie the game at 1-1. Again, in the 68th minute, the Panthers struck as Fabio Amaral scored to take a 2-1 lead.
Florida Tech assumed a defensive approach which made it tough for the Mocs to get a decent look throughout the remainder of the half. Just when hope was beginning to run out, the ball found the foot of
Felix Aakerberg and
Victor Beker setting up Tophoven to tap in another one for the Mocs to tie the game at 2-2.
Tophoven now has nine goals on the season in just eight games played. The graduate student is leading the Mocs with nine goals as well as the SSC for a 1.125 goal per game average.
The Mocs had a total of seven shots - five of which were on goal. Goalkeeper,
AJ Pearce recorded six saves - his second highest of the season. While Florida Tech had 11 shots eight being on goal.
