Women’s Tennis Opened Fall Schedule at ITA Regional Championships

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Florida Southern College women's tennis team opened their fall schedule competing in the ITA Division II South Regional Championships this past weekend, hosted by Auburn University at Montgomery.

The Mocs sent five athletes: Maxima Ellenberg, Vivien Charvatova, Laura Vetter, Laia Pasini, and Olivia Bryant. Each of the athletes did a great job throughout the tournament as a great opportunity to compete against top regional talent.

In singles competition, Bryant opened the round of 64 with a win over Matina Ujdur in two sets, as did Ellenberg against her opponent. After tough competition in the round of 32, both Bryant and Ellenberg dropped their sets to end their championship run.

In the consolation rounds, Charvatova, and Pasini competed for spots in the later rounds. Pasini won her round of 64 in two sets, as Charvatova advanced to the round of 16 early on. Pasini and Charvatova won their consolation round of 16 matches in their sets, to set up a strong quarterfinals showing. Pasini advanced to the semifinals where she won in two sets before an  exit in the consolation finals. Charvatova lost her quarterfinals matchup that rounded out the singles competition for the Mocs.

For doubles competition, Vetter teamed with Pasini to advance to the round of 32, where they headed to the consolation rounds, advancing as far as the semifinals. Ellenberg and Charvatova lost their round of 32 match to also advance to the consolation semis where they won by default for a consolation final appearance.

"We knew going in that competition would be tough," said head coach Trish Riddell. "We played well and learned a lot about our next steps. Good showing for the first event of the year."

Due to the effects of Hurricane Ian, the Mocs have postponed a portion of their attendance to the Mercer Gridiron Classic tournament scheduled for this weekend. Follow FSC_Mocs on social media and fscmocs.com for further schedule updates.
