Boca Raton, Fla.- The No. 24th ranked Florida Southern College Mocs could not beat the No. 6th ranked Lynn University Saturday afternoon at the Perper Tennis Complex.
For doubles on the #1 court,
Laura Vetter and
Maxima Ellenberg gave Lynn a good fight as they forced Lynn to win by two. In the end, the Fighting Knights took the reins and ended the match 7-2. Lynn took decisive wins on courts #2 and #3.
The Mocs struggled to gain momentum on the singles courts. On court #6,
Isabella Bolivar held her ground in the first set, scoring four before her opponent, Dolores Molina, advanced to six. The second set seemed promising for Bolivar, energized by the tight game. In the end, however, Lynn finished with a win on court #6.
Olivia Bryant finished with the only flight win for the Mocs on court #4 by opponent retirement. However, Bryant kept the score close in both rounds (3-6), (2-3) before her opponent, Sofia Podbiol, withdrew from the match. Bryant is a consistent player for the Mocs as she racked up a team high of 19 personal wins last season. Bryant's game looks strong as she begins her junior year this season.
The Mocs will return Monday, February 20th, where they will take on the Bates College Bobcats. The match is set to begin at 4 p.m. at the Mocs' home court, the Wynee Warden tennis Center.
