LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 24 Florida Southern College women's tennis team opened the 2023 spring season by hosting the FSC Invite Saturday at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
The Mocs had a great opening day with the FSC Invite hosting three teams, the No.14 University of Tampa, No. 5 Flagler College, and St. Pete College. The nationally ranked battle went throughout the day as each of the teams played in a hidden duals-style format with daylong action on the courts.
In a series of doubles competitions, Florida Southern had flight wins by
Kennedi Brown with
Kelly Klaren (6-4) against their Tampa opponent, and
Karina Bazilevych and
Olivia Bryant (6-3) against a combo of Flagler and St. Pete College.
For singles play,
Jolie Miller earned a two-set win against Tampa (6-1, 6-1) as Brown tallied her first collegiate win in a two set 6-2 win against St. Pete College. Klaren won 6-1, 6-0 against SPC as the last of the Moccasins who had a flight win.
The Mocs will have day two of the FSC Invite tomorrow, Feb. 5, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
