Mocs Post Four Top-10 Finishes at River City Relays

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Southern men's track team was back on the track Thursday night for the River City Relays in Jacksonville, Fla. The Moccasins were led by freshman Christian Giller who ran the sixth fastest 10,000m time in program history and just missed out on the freshman record by 14 seconds. The team sent six runners to the track and four of the six earned top-10 finishes including a pair of top-five spots.

TOP PERFORMERS
  • Freshmen Christian Giller and Chris Colavita made their collegiate 10K debuts on the track Thursday night with each earning a top-10 finish. Giller was the first Moc to cross the line as he finished fifth overall in the event and was the second NCAA Division II runner to cross the finish line. Giller's time of 31:13.41 was good for sixth all-time at FSC and was just 14 second behind the freshman record held by Mason Jones (2018-22) who posted a time of 30:59.26 in 2018 at the Bison Outdoor Classic on the campus of Bucknell University in Pennsylvania. Colavita finished two spots back in seventh as his time of 31:49.98 finished just outside the top-10 all-time marks at FSC.
  • Freshman Caleb Brady also made his collegiate debut in a new event as he took to the track in the 3,000m steeplechase. Brady earned a top-five finish as he took fifth in the event after stopping the clock at 9:40.96, just over a second off a top-10 all-time mark at FSC as well as the freshman record which is held by current Moccasin Brady Zimmerman who posted a time of 9:39.30 at the Embry-Riddle Invite in 2021.
  • Junior Owen Allen picked up a top-10 finish as he was the third NCAA Division II runner to cross the line in the 5000m while taking seventh overall. Allen ran a personal best 14:41.73, just four seconds off a top-10 mark at FSC.
  • The first two Mocs to take the track Thursday night were freshman Anthony Matthew and senior Alex Guy as the pair competed in the 1500m. Matthew just missed out on a top-10 finishes as he took 12th overall but he was just the second NCAA Division II runner to finish the race. Matthew crossed the line in 3:59.50. Guy finished four spots back in 16th after completing the distance in 4:01.87.

The Moccasins will be back in action next Friday and Saturday, March 24-25, at the UCF Knights Invite in Orlando, Fla.
