LAKELAND, Fla. – For the first time in program history, the Florida Southern College men's outdoor track coach has been named the South Region Coach of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Head Coach
Matt Levassiur earns his first career South Region Outdoor Track Coach of the Year honor adding to his 2023 South Region Cross Country Coach of the Year.
Levassiur is one of eight coaches to earn Region Coach of the Year joining Justin Germani (East Stroudsburg) out of the Atlantic Region, Kyle Rutledge (Pittsburg State) out of the Central Region, John Wallin (Southern Connecticut) out of the East Region, Jerry Baltes (Grand Valley State) out of the Midwest Region, Matt Stewart (West Texas A&M) out of the South Central Region, Jacqueline Kirby (Wingate) out of the Southeast Region and Ray Winter (Fresno Pacific) out of the West Region.
Levassiur, in his eighth year as Head Coach at Florida Southern, led the Moccasins to the team title at the inaugural Sunshine State Conference Championships, winning three events and scoring 111 points. Florida Southern also had a pair of athletes bring home a total of three All-South Region honors including
Christian Giller (10,000m) and
Anthony Matthew (800m & 1,500m). The Moccasins saw four school records set this season.
