LAKELAND, Fla. - The Florida Southern College hockey team defeated Embry-Riddle 5-1 in the opening round of the College Hockey South Playoffs PictSweet Cup hosted by Florida Southern College at the Lakeland Ice Arena.

Florida Southern will face fourth-seed Florida at 9:15 pm Saturday night. In the season finale, the Mocs defeated the Gators 13-3.Â
The Mocs (16-7) defeated the Eagles behind
Paul Rigiloni's three goals and two assists. It's his fifth hat trick of the season.Â
Matthew Fromer added two goals for Florida Southern where his second goal was his 100th career point for the Moccasins, making him the first member of the "Century Club".
Jason Cribbs was stellar between the pipes in goal for the Mocs making 15 saves while letting up just a single goal.Â
The Moccasins earned the second seed behind the University of Tampa while Florida Tech (no. 3) and Florida (no. 4) all earned the top seeds in the tournament. Rounding out the field were no. 5 South Florida (USF), no. 6 Florida State, no. 7 Embry-Riddle, and no. 8 Tennessee. In the semifinals of the bracket, Tampa will face Florida State while Florida Southern plays Florida. In the fifth-place game, Florida Tech and South Florida will play while ERAU and Tennessee will play for seventh place.Â
