WINTER GARDEN, Fla. – Florida Southern College men's golf sits in third after the first two rounds of the NCAA National Championship Preview hosted at Orange County National in Winter Garden where the Moccasins are at even-par following the first 36 hole of golf.
Adam Alvarez is leading the player race by one stroke heading to Tuesday.
Adam Alvarez, a redshirt senior from Winter Haven, Fla., carded a two-round total 137 (-7) after sinking 10 birdies and one eagle in his first 36 holes of the campaign. Alvarez carded a four-under 68 to open the tournament before following that up with a 69 to sit at 137 (-7) at the conclusion of Monday's golf. His lone eagle came on the par-5 540-yard no. 17 in the second round.
Bryce Walker is tied for 10
th at one-over 145, just ahead of
Max Barile, the team's top qualifier last week. Three players scored an opening 75 before bouncing back in the second round. Walker used a 70 (-2) in round two to climb the board and finish in 10
th Monday while Barile fired a 71 (-1) to sit at 146 (+2).
Tyler Mistretta had a one-over 73 to open the day before carding a 75 (+3) for round to, to head to the final round at 148 (+4), good enough for 26
th place.
Max Watson rounded out the Mocs in the field of 52 with a 150 (+6) to sit in 33
rd place with back-to-back rounds of 75 (+3).
As a team, the Mocs made 100 pars while leading the field with 39 birdies.
Coker is the top of the team leaderboard with a two-round total of 573 (-3), leading the defending national champions, Nova Southeastern, by one stroke.
