GAINESVILLE, Ga. – Florida Southern College men's golf wrapped up day one, 36 holes, of the Mizuno Intercollegiate hosted at the Chattahoochee Golf Club by the University of North Georgia.
Adam Alvarez and
Bryce Walker paced the Moccasins on the par-72 7,166-yard course Monday, closing the day tied for 25
th at one-over 145.
Alvarez, who paced the team with eight birdies, shot a two-over 74 to open the day before firing off a one-under 71 to sit at one over 145 for the day. Walker matched Alvarez carding a 74 in round one and 71 in round two to tie in the top-quarter of the player field.
Max Barile was third on the team and ended the day tied for 54
th after a two-round core of 148 (+4). Barile bested the team with a one-under 71 for round one before a five-over 77 during round two.
Max Watson and
Tyler Mistretta rounded out the Mocs in the field where the duo tied the day at 153 (+9), good for 84
th place. Watson shot a three-over 75 in round one before a 78 (+6) in round two while Mistretta was second best on the team in round one with an even-par. Mistretta had an 81 (+9) in round two to head into Tuesday with ground to make up.
Florida Southern as a team carded a 291 (+4) for round one and a 297 (+9) for a two-round total of 588 (+12). The Moccasins made 109 pars and 27 birdie as Watson paced the team with 28 pars throughout 34 holes.
Lincoln Memorial is leading the team race by eight-strokes after a blazing start to the tournament. The Railsplitters fired off a 12-under 276 in round one to get a jump on the field and followed with an eight-under 280 for a 56 (-20) 36 hole total. George Durkan (LMU) leads the individual player leaderboard by one stroke with a 136 (-8) total. Durkan shot rounds of 67 and 69 Monday.
